Our Star Par-tay!

We have left the land of princess parties behind, wah!  Our great big, too-grown-up girl decided that she wanted to have a Star Party… with the colors Blue, Green, & Gold!

Uh, not exactly what I would have guessed by any means, but it’s her party and she can pick the theme {or cry} if she wants to, right?  :)

I turned to the cheap but impactful party solution… BALLOONS!  I did have a chuckle when I was pulling all of the green and blue balloons out of the package… for my DAUGHTER’S birthday.

Proof that kids like to keep you guessing.

I loved the Pinterest idea of creating a balloon chandelier with regular blown up balloons just by hanging them upside down!  Haylee is obsessed with her newly acquired skill of blowing up balloons, so she and Chris were the primary balloon blowers.

I decided to try my hand making those big Stars out of leftover poster board to hang up with our balloons too.  It was cheap and Haylee got to use glitter paint, so that was pretty much a win-win.  :)

I also whipped up some fun DIY {ahem… cheap!} star party favors.

Stay tuned for a tutorial on the FUN STAR STUFF coming up Friday!

We did the split family party plan again, but I am a bad, bad mama and only took pics of the first party with Chris’s side of the fam.

Whoops. Sorry about that those of you that got slighted.  By gala number 3, I had apparently lost most of my party mojo, I’m afraid.  :)

Haylee is somehow not a cake lover {which consequently leads me to believe I may have already failed as a mother} so she requested Cheesecake!

Somehow I neglected to get a picture of the cheesecake at EITHER party!  Just take my word for it that it looked and tasted amazing!  I created this large birthday topper to go in it since I couldn’t very easily pipe a birthday greeting in frosting.

I attached it to a skewer stick and just stuck it right in the cheesecake.  :)

I also decided to do a fun twist on brownies with Brownie Cupcakes inspired by The Pleated Poppy.  I loved her idea of taking something easy and prettying it up a bit!

These toppers are so easy and add some fun pizzazz to any cupcake!

We decided to use the brownie to blow out her candle. I love this face of anticipation and the other little people’s faces watching intently…

 Time to blow!!!

I loved this shot too of Haylee sporting her new Diva hat and Davis’s look of mischief as he’s swiping her new box to keep her treasures away from him!

I think he may have took offense at the silly idea that a pretty box would be able to keep him away.  :)

Her party was a hit and that’s always a good thing!

This next shot was post gift opening madness, right about the time when Haylee announced…

“Do you wanna know which one was my favorite?”

And before I could barely get out a desperate “Hayleeyoudonttellfavorites!” She declared… “My box!”

Aunt Kelly was the winner of Haylee’s “Best Prize Award” after consulting the gift list Nana had requested and finding the cutest fabric covered photo/treasure box.  She even made it more fabulous my embellishing the top with Haylee’s NAME… something rare when your mom decides to give you a unique spelling.  :)

Thankfully, it was just family and no one appeared to be offended. Or at least they didn’t appear to be since they all were dying laughing.

On her actual birthday, Chris got off work early, and we took JUST her and a friend for some fun at Carowinds!   She was in heaven getting to pick rides and stay OUT of kiddie land if she wanted.  We also were amazed how having a friend along meant she was much more willing to just go do things without us… plus she and her friend could gab away to their hearts content.  :)

Later that night we gave her a gift from us… something SUPER special…

Her own ipod touch!

I think she was shocked!

She has since been IN LOVE with it especially when Chris set her up to be able to facetime and text {when she’s connected to wifi} so she is ALL ABOUT that.

The first night she took it to bed with her and around 9:30 I got this text…

I had to laugh.  I’m guessing this is the beginning of a new era… whether we’re ready for it or not!

A few days later at birthday bash #3, she showed off her new toy to my brother Mack {the uber techie who just got an ipad}. He asked her if the ipod touch was her favorite gift {I think he was trying to make a joke about her announcement at party #1}, and she shot back, “I don’t know. Maybe you’re giving me an iPad.”

That’s my girl.

Happy Ninth Birthday to our Sweet {Grown up} Girl!

She went shopping with Chris’s aunt and picked that out all on her own… as well as a matching neon flower headband. :) I didn’t realize you could text from it either… but I guess it uses an email address and of course only works when there is wifi.

Yes, Haylee would LOVE that! We weren’t really ready either but it was one of those progression things where we started at point A of giving her a Nano that Apple sent b/c of a recall and then one thing led to another and we were shopping ebay for ipod touches. :)
