I Survived… and so did the kids!

We got back Saturday from our road-trip to Grandma’s… 9.5 hours away in sunny, hot, hot, hot, hot Florida.  It was a looooong trip made bearable only by the dvd player and lots and lots of snacks. The trip there seemed much faster since we got an earlier start, and we were losing an hour with the time zone change.  That always helps.  I did okay “navigationally” though I followed my printed Google map directions almost the whole way much to the constant consternation of my GPS. It kept telling me to turn around for miles before it would finally resign itself to the fact that I was not following its instructions and recalculate.
I had a basket stuffed with toys and books between their seats that did help hold the kiddo’s attention some, though Wade’s favorite thing to play was throwing toy after toy down and calmly saying, “Get it.”
There were a few cycles of putting the mountain of toys that had accumulated under his feet, back in the basket.
road trip

We made it both ways with only a few stops which helped us get there faster!  On the way down we stopped just after Atlanta in the middle of nowhere where the only place to relieve our bladders was a hole in the wall gas station, though I did accidentally walk the kids into the adjoining liquor store.  Whoops! :)  The lady took one look at us and said, “Can I help you?” Ha!  After our bathroom break, we went around the corner and sat on the sidewalk overlooking some fields and ate our lunch.

lunch break

The most sacred time in the car had to be the Wadester’s naptimes!  In those brief and blissful moments I was free from the stress of keeping him happy and entertained!!!!  :)  He slept much longer on the way down which was nice.  He only slept an hour on our way home.  ONE HOUR? Seriously?  That’s all your going to give me, Wade???
napping in car

It was a very looooong time to be in the car… both for me and the kids, but it was fun!  Don’t know how soon I’ll be doing that again though.  I definitely am going to need some major time lapsing in order for me to forget the bad and remember only the good. Of course, by then we’ll have added another munchkin to the list, so I don’t know if that would be me being brave or just plain stupid!

*More Vacay Adventures to come…
