Birthday Bash

We had a fabulous day yesterday, although it was EXHAUSTING, but birthday bashes usually are, aren’t they?

We went to get Haylee’s ears pierced before the party and used some numbing cream Wade’s doctor gave us to use for his shots. (You put a dot on a bandaid and apply to his thighs thirty minutes before the appointment time) Someone gave us the idea to do this for Haylee’s ears too. I didn’t know of how to do it except for the bandaid method which she wasn’t thrilled about. I think she thought she looked silly or something, because she acted embarrassed by them :)

She picked going to the mall over Walmart and I was assuming that she just thought the mall was cooler or something.

Upon further investigation from Chris, however, we discovered her true motive was getting to play in the play place at the mall while we were there. :)

We let her play for a few minutes which was good I think. It maybe let her work out some nervous energy before the dramatic piercing. :)

We then headed to find the nearest Piercing place of business and ended up at Claire’s. We picked out her studs and got started with the process starting with me filling out paperwork, I’m assuming waiving all my rights to sue Claire’s in the event that something undesirable happened to her ears. :)

The girl started out by cleaning her ears and then marking on her lobes with a pen showing where the holes would go. We were a bit worried when she said the PEN hurt! I didn’t know what was in store, since I assumed that meant that the numbing cream was not working as it should have! I was also distressed to learn that would NOT pierce them both at the same time supposedly since there wasn’t another employee there that was trained to do it.

Haylee was anxious about it, but she made it through piece of cake even doing it one ear at a time. I think Mommy was as relieved as she was to have it be over. She was so thrilled with the finished product and told us repeatedly how glad she was that we let her get them pierced!
I did have a moment of heart failure when we went up to pay after the big event. I about FELL OUT when she rang up the total as $38! Haylee is lucky that I didn’t ask the price before hand, because more than likely I would have said, “Thank you very much” and turned right around to head back to Walmart or the other Piercing Place.
They even advertise that ear piercing is free with purchase of earrings. I think that the earrings are supposed to be 14k gold which I guess looking on the bright side is good for the sake of her ears, but honestly! $38 is sooo absolutely ridiculous!

Later that night we headed to CEC and managed to get the cake there with no unfortunate incidents. :) I have to give a shout out to the cake maker, Christa Boylston. She did a great job and we received lots of comments on how fabulous it was.

Part of the party is Chuck E. coming out for a Birthday song and dance, and Chris and I were soooo shocked to see our own chicken of a daughter chase those fears away and give him a HUG! Her bravery managed to even continue throughout the whole time he performed for us and included several additional hugs. I shouldn’t be surprised, I guess. Afterall, she is five now. :)

She had such a good time. I think her words were actually “This was the best day of my life.” ;)
I guess that means the big FIVE was a hit!

Here’s more pictures if you wanna see the whole ear piercing and party madness… :)
