Williamsburg Woohoo!

DSC_0119 2

We love to get away for our anniversary, and this year we headed off for somewhere new… Williamsburg!

DSC_0049 2

It’s hard to believe we’re an old married couple now… 12 years ago we tied the big knot and now we’re o-l-d lovebirds.  :)

We apparently picked the worst time of the year to get hitched though.  We haven’t found anywhere warm and sunny enough in March to be in the water, and after the Bahamas was too cold in April, I pretty much lost hope.  :)

Further evidence was found this year in Williamsburg.

Prior to March 18th, you can get the winter rates at Colonial Williamsburg of $20 something per person, and after March 26th, you can get the three day combo ticket for CW, a nearby Water Park, and Busch Gardens for $47 per person.

BUT! In the one week window in which we vacationed, we got the fabulous deal of ONE DAY at only Colonial Williamsburg for the WHOPPING price of $39 per person.

Uh, yeah, we did.  We paid $80 for access and tours in a few select buildings!

But it might have been worth it to get the following picture…

Chris pretending to be a pointy preacher.  “You there in the back-uh.  Wake up, I say-uh!”

Though in all honesty, this was one of the “free” buildings that we could have gone into WITHOUT paying the hefty $80.

We did get to go into the Capitol Building though which was pretty interesting.

And we even learned a thing or two from the Colonial Tour Guide who I’m pretty sure was preggo, but in the flowing colonial garb it really is hard to tell.  :)

This is me with some GINORMOUS oxen in the background.  Seriously.  They were HUGE.

This was the Governor’s Palace on the left and a beautiful garden on the right…

They have people in period costumes roaming around trying to “blend in” carrying on overly loud conversations with each other such as…

“I say, man, I do declare that I have a blasted mule who keeps getting out of the barn each night.  Do say what remedy I shall take.”

I’m serious.

There was even a scheduled performance that we found a spot and waited for.  All around us were the “colonists” engaged in LOUD banter with each other and whichever visitor was up for the occasion.

I probably don’t have to tell you that Chris and I weren’t exactly itching to chat it up with Mrs. Tilly or anyone else.  :)

One of the funniest things we saw was a “gentlemen” attempting to get himself into a carriage driven by a lady coachman.  The two of them were loudly carrying on their conversation while he tried to get the folding steps down….

DSC_0130

And then once he boarded the carriage he had to get way down in all his finery, wig and all, on his hands and knees to try to pull the steps back up.

I found it quite comical.

We also enjoyed spending some time with our old friends playing and eating and gabbing and relishing the adult convos.

We don’t even look like frazzled mama’s do we??? Amazing!

Later in the week we drove over to Virginia Beach and enjoyed the view!  It was too cold to go in {of course}, though there are always those random crazies in the water, but it was nice to walk on the beach together.

Twelve years together…. seems like that should make us old or something, right?

Loved seeing your photos. My hubby and I went to Williamsburg for our honeymoon 4 years ago. We went in October and got the historic triangle pass and someone had given us passes to Busch Gardens as a wedding gift. We really enjoyed it!

Ah! You stinker! That’s out “other” stomping grounds! LOL

You shoulda told me before ya’ll went & I would’ve warned you about how unnecessary it is to actually buy Williamsburg tix! ;-)

We love it though… try to go every time we visit the family up there. Of course, *I’m* 1 of those dorks that talks back to the actors. Ha ha!

Did you get to partake in any of the great shopping up there?

    Sounds like ya’ll had fun! Congratulations on the 12 years!!! {We’re right behind ya…}
