Vacation begins in three…two…ONE!

We are on our way to Lake Lure today! We are VEEERY excited to get a few days away in a cute little place in the mountains!

The kiddos are getting dropped off with Nana shortly {after we meet at the eye doctor to get Haylee’s glasses fixed again!}, and we will meet halfway to pick them up Saturday so they can join us for the last two days of fun.

{Believe it or not, this will be our first time getting away ALONE since the big bad Davis joined the fam in September!}

It’s less than a 2 hour drive which is super nice, since we were hoping to find something available closer to home this year.

There is a “beach” aka… the Lake, a few swimming pools, lazy river and hot tub, and mini-golf… not to mention the gorgeous mountain views!

lake lure dirty dancing site{via… This is actually the site where they filmed the movie Dirty Dancing!}

We will probably be spending most of our time swimming, or if we’re brave maybe we’ll take all three kids to Chimney Rock!  Hello, Ergo!

Although, now that I look at those rickety stairs and flimsy gate around an ENORMOUS precipice, I am NOT EXACTLY SURE this is the BEST PLACE for our Wild Wadester.  You know if we want to actually meet that goal of him living past 12 and all.

Hmmm… maybe we need to borrow another Ergo to strap him in too.  :)

After checking out the website, I was bummed to see that the elevator is OUT OF SERVICE!  That means attempting the 400+ stairs from bottom to top with our three in tow.

Don’t know if this mama is up for that or not.

We actually aren’t doing the big week at the beach this year since we are HEADED TO DISNEY in SEPTEMBER!!!!! Wa to the Hoo!

We’ve been putting off the Disney trip ever since we went in 2003 with my whole side of the fam PRE-kids. As in no grandkids around at all. Crazy to think about that now with SEVEN of them running amuck, though I was about 7 months preggo with Haylee at the time.

Uh, yes.  I do realize what a lovely picture this is.  I try to be real, okay?  :)

Watching sweaty, cranky parents drag sweaty, whiny toddlers around the park prompted a solemn vow between the two of us that we would NEVER… no, NEVER take our kids to Disney until they were at least old enough to really understand and appreciate it.

We kind of have run into a snag in our big plan though since there is a SEVEN year age difference between our oldest and youngest. If we wait until our youngest is ready, our oldest will be too cool for school.

Since we cannot break our previous solemn vow, we are left with the only other alternative which leaves me quivering with fear and guiltwe are leaving our wittle baby with the grandparents.

Aren’t we just the awful-est parents ever in the history of the world??????????

I know, I know!!!

I try to reconcile my guilt with the knowledge that Davis will NOT remember ONE little bitty thing from Disney if we did take him.  AND, if we did take him we would be forced to live in the world of bottles and naps and strollers, oh my.

I have this feeling though that this will somehow end up being our only trip to Disney, which would mean Davis would grow up Disney-less.  I can see a glimpse of holiday gatherings with grown children milling about where poor Davis belabors the point of “NO, I am not spoiled.  I didn’t even get to go to Disney.”

Cuz, that what we do in my family… not to bring up the Christmas where Mack got a $100 Gameboy, and B & I had to share a TINY, MINI keyboard that probably was $20.  To make this traumatic event even worse, I had happened upon this particular present BEFORE Christmas and it had been labeled ONLY for me.  What’s up with that?!

ANYWAY, enough of my childhood pain.  We were talking about Lake Lure, right?

YES, yes, okay!

We are leaving today for our fab getaway… creating memories to scar OUR children with.

    WOW, Chimney Rock looks absolutely terrifying!!! I strongly dislike heights, but I am sure the view is amazing.

    You are hysterical! You are smart to leave Davis at home and make some wonderful memories w/ Wade and Haylee! I hope you all enjoy the Lake Lure getaway! We used to love driving up through there every fall. I miss that area – so pretty. Enjoy the vacation.
