Turning the BIG 3-0!

Monday was Chris’s 30th birthday. I had wanted to plan a big birthday dinner with both sides of the fam for Saturday night and then go to our house for cake afterwards. Well, my party pooper hubby wasn’t as fond of that idea as I was, so I figured I would attempt to do it his way, since it was, in fact, HIS birthday.

I guess he would say it’s a good thing we didn’t plan a big deal since his dad went into the hospital Friday, and Saturday’s party probably wouldn’t have happened. Billy’s surgery was originally planned for Monday, Chris big day, but was changed to Tuesday. I know Billy didn’t enjoy waiting an extra day, but it gave us some time Monday to celebrate…

It was an odd birthday mixture of events, to be sure. Chris went to the gym, first of all, which I think is crazy. Your birthday of all days, you should get a free pass, right? Then we went to the Social Security office to get a new card for me. Mine was stolen with my purse in 2001 I think, and I had never replaced it. To work at Northside I had to prove my employment eligibility, however, so I needed to come up with it.
Then we headed off to the doctor for Haylee’s four year old check up complete with three shots. She did pretty well. We were so proud of her… She didn’t cry when she got the shots, but she did cry hysterically when he looked into her ears. The girl has a ear phobia. I think it scared her when it touched her ear and then when she jerked away, the doctor kept checking and didn’t stop and say what he was doing or anything. So the fear turned to panic turned to hysteria. She’s lying there screaming and Chris told her to stop crying. This brought on the screaming/crying/talking mixture (at the top of her lungs) of… “I CAN’T STOP!” :)

Next we stopped by the hospital to visit Billy and share our doctor horror stories. :) Those weren’t exactly typical party events, but it made for a unique birthday. After the hospital visit, we headed off for some bowling fun and dinner out. We had such a good time bowling. Haylee was great entertainment, and she had a blast. You could almost fall asleep waiting for her ball to get to the pins, however! :) It would roll soooooo slowly, and then when it would finally get to the pins, they seemed to fall over in slow motion! We checked out another little boy a few lanes down who had a run and throw method, so we got her to try that. It did get the ball moving faster, but as she ran toward the lane I could just imagine her hitting that slick surface and careening down the lane herself! Thankfully, that never happened. :)

We headed to Logan’s Steakhouse for dinner and then it was home for some good old chocolate cake! I know that this measly little cake is nothing compared to Ellen’s fab creations, but I was proud of it! :) I actually managed to make a layer cake that ended up halfway decent!

My present for Chris for his big day was a Richard Petty Ride Along Experience. He gets to ride along with a driver on the actual race track going up to 160 or so mph, I think. It’s similar to what Billy did for his 5oth birthday, but a much cheaper version! :) Chris looked pleased with it, so I think I did good. :)

All in all, it was a good day and I’m thankful for my superb hubby who is still looking good at 3-0! :)

Glad he had a good day, and good to see you are catching up with the life events, I know you’ve been crazy busy. :) Also wanted to vouch for how good your cake was. :) Haylee is of course adorable as always!

Happy Birthday Chris!! Glad you were able to enjoy some time together as a family. The bowling sounds like it was fun. All that really matters is how the cake tastes anyway,…. LOL. Hope you have a great week!

Awww, Happy Birthday, Chris! Hope you had a wonderful day, and I think that’s a really thoughtful gift, Renee. (Why do men have this obsession with speed? Is it the ol’ “conquer, subdue, and destroy” spirit coming out in them?)
