The LOSER Party… Part II

Part II on my list of Weight Loss Inspirations is…

My own dear brother Mack! This January he decided to try what he calls “his own version” of a diet. Each month he tried to add a new element to his plan, and as of June 1st, he has lost a WHOPPING 48 lbs! FORTY-EIGHT!

Doesn’t he look so skinny?  And aren’t my nephews such cuties?  For the record, my sister in law Jen is a true saint of the highest order putting up with Mack for TWELVE years.

Thankfully he’s a little nicer to her than he was to me growing up.  :)

Here’s his current diet plan…

Breakfast: fruit, usually an orange
Lunch: Salad
Dinner: Anything, but only one helping
Snacks: Things high in protein, like nuts or protein bars
Drinks: A lot of water, some juice or milk, no soda, sweet tea 1-2 times a week
Exercise: Walk 3-4 miles per weekday on the treadmill while playing PS2 and listening to podcasts
No food after 9pm

I think it’s important to note that he gave himself reasonable expectations.

{Trust me, he was not at all used to making healthy eating choices. Sorry, Mack! I remember many a night of him eating a frozen pizza burnt beyond recognition. Of course, that may have been his strategy of keeping his hungry siblings away.}

By starting off in January with only a few of these “restrictions” he didn’t immediately become discouraged and quit before he was able to achieve such an incredible loss like 48 lbs.

I can’t get over how skinny he looks now. He is looking like he did in college!

I do love his podcast idea.  I had to grill him on the how’s and why’s of that.  I used to like to listen to Bob & Sheri and Matt & Ramona while I was commuting, so I went into ITunes and subscribed to their free podcasts.  They will distract me from my exercise pain and hopefully keep me going!

I’ve heard weight loss gurus say before to simply start where you are… do what you can do NOW.  Don’t let losing weight seem like a giant looming thing that is too hard and impossible to even try.  Start small and do a little at a time!

Good job Mack!!!

Part III coming next week!!
