The Great Sugar Cookie Extravaganza of ’08! ☺

We had to carry on the tradition we started last year of making sugar cookies. It is something that B and I would always do with Mom when we were little. It is such a hassle, takes forever and makes a collosal mess, but it is all worth it to see Haylee having such a good time!

On Tuesday, I was in a bit of a panic realizing I had just one day left to accomplish all that I needed to. I had tons of errands to run and Aunt Linda was fabulous enough to agree to watch Haylee and Wade so I could accomplish everything in a third of time.

Shopping without kiddos is such a luxury. You moms out there know what I’m talking about. There is nothing to kill the shopping vibe quicker than a few kids thrown in! :)

After picking up the kids, I let Haylee in on the surprise that we would be making the cookies that night. (Even though I still had lots of wrapping to do!) That’s when I realized that I had failed to plan properly. For although I had sugar cookie mix (that’s right. I’m a mix girl.), frosting, and the special tube frosting to draw with, I did not have any cookie cutters! Ah!

I had a great, great desire to avoid Walmart at all cost, so we stopped at four stores searching for the elusive Christmas cookie cutters. Rite Aid, Family Dollar, and Food Lion with no luck. The FD employee graciously informed me that I should try Walmart.

Oh, really? You think that Walmart might carry them?

Our final try was Walgreens and we found them… though the selection was a bit limited on Christmas Eve Eve. BUT… we found them and the Sugar Cookie Extravaganza could continue.

I think it actually took about 3 hours from start to finish, and I was never so ready to be done.

But as I was getting frustrated and irritated with this little thing and that little mess here and there, Haylee said, “I love cooking with you, Mommy.” “I like cooking with you better than drawing.”

If you know Haylee’s love for drawing at all, then you know how big that is… So I tried to suck my impatience in and made a Christmas memory with my little girl who is 5 going on 20.

Mixing the dough…

Showing off our cool shapes!

Icing the cookies with determination!

Step 4 of the process! :)

That is the most Betty Crocker thing I have seen all day. School Teacher, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Mother, Nurse, Doctor, Friend, Neighbor, and still has time to play Martha homemaker, complete with aprons, icing and everything. You make me sick. : )
