Poster Board Star Art!

Lemme tell you there is not all that much inspiration out there {that I could find} for a “Star” birthday party.  There were “Rock Star” parties and “Star Wars” parties galore clogging up my search results, but very few simple STAR parties going on.

I’m giving you THREE sweet tutorials from all our party goodness… coming up today and in the semi-near future, so I hope you are ready to par-tay!

First up is the fabulous, large-and-in-charge, Poster Board Stars!

I had some leftover poster board and decided to try turning them into some large STAR ART using some glitter acrylic paint.

I just free handed it until I got it decently close to resembling an actual star.  :)  I’m not an artist obviously.  It is extremely sad that I actually had to google a star so I could figure out exactly how to draw the silly thing.  {What did we DO before the INTERNET?!}

Once I was reasonably satisfied that this may be as good as it was going to get, I cut it out and used it to trace the rest.

I am ashamedly NOT one of those awesome moms that lets glitter and paint and play-do roam freely, so before we added some paint to our stars, I battened down the hatches, so to speak.  I spread out lots of newspaper over every inch of the table and even taped it all down.

For a fun striped look, I taped several spaced lines with painters tape.  It peeled off pretty easily for the most part, though we did have a few places it wanted to stick.

We also had a polka dot one that I just took the foam brush dipped in paint and then brought it straight down on the star and twisted it around and around to give a circle-ish shape.

Haylee L-O-V-E-D getting to tell everyone that SHE had helped paint!

All done! Woot!

When it was time to hang, I poked through two small holes and tied on some twine.  I hung them with painters tape. I didn’t have any issues at Party #1, but several of my stars fell {heehee} at Party #3… I think due to a ceiling fan blowing.

Clear packaging tape would probably have worked better since it won’t show and has better stickiness!

Combined with our balloon chandelier, they added a nice WOW factor for sure.  :)

 Not too shabby a result with FREE poster boardfoam brushes about a $1 and a bottle of paint around $2.  Woohoo!

What about you?  Are you a good free hand artist?  No need for google images on your end, hmmm?  :)
