We just started Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace class at church and are scrimping our budgets again.

Our food spending had gotten out of control again, but now we are shooting for $100 a week {for a family of 5}. I think this is week 3. We have started shopping at Aldi’s which has really helped us stay under budget.

All of us except Davis are packing a lunch every day and hello, is it hard or what to stay easy, healthy-ish, and cheap for lunches??! School lunches cost $3.70 so we are definitely not doing that, but even packing can add up fast. What are some easy and cheap lunch ideas???

Wish us luck!!

What are you eating this week?

I have been trying to keep to $100 a week for a while for our family and it can be hard. One thing that has helped us with keep lunch costs down is using leftovers. If dinner is a big hit with my little guy he gets a little bit of it for lunch the next day. I usually add something new to mix it up for him like a different vegetable or fruit. Chicken is always a great one because the leftovers can be changed up easily for an all new meal. My hubby doesn’t do leftovers but he would eat peanut butter everyday so that helps! You will be so glad to see the results of your hard work!! Keep it up :)

I make my own lunchables with just cheese, ham and crackers. they also have refillable bottles that i fill with crystal lite so i dont have to buy juice pouches or water bottles. I will also pack leftover homemade pizza but my kids love cold pizza. i try to not give them a sandwich every day because that can get boring. my kids also love it when i pack any king of cold pasta salad. its very cheap and i can use up any little bits of veggies i have and the leftover ham and cheese from the homemade lunchables. i very the dressings so that doesnt get boring either.

I shop at Aldi’s and it has saved us so much money. We go every two weeks and spend around $200 (family of 6) so your budget is great. I attended the same seminar as you and lost my way about a year later. I think it was hard for us because my husband stayed home with the kids, while I attended the classes. So, only 1 of us really got the just of it. My husband figured we’re tight on everything we do budget wise anyways, what else is there! So, I’m hoping that we can start again. Thank you so much for everything that you post. I’m a stay at home mom, former teacher and I LOVE all of your education posts and well, all of your posts in general! Keep up the great work!
