Bad News on the Church Hunt…

We’ve been visiting Northside Baptist Church for the last few weeks and think we like it. We both really enjoy the pastor. It is a fundamental church, but quite contemporary in its style of worship. We enjoyed the couples Sunday School class we went to this Sunday. They are going through a book about family and couple issues. It was interesting and seemed to be a good group…
During the morning service, we were stunned to hear the Pastor, Dan Burrell, announce that he was resigning. He let the church know that his last Sunday would be September 1st. Apparently, there are some issues going on and some are not happy with him. He decided the best course of action would be stepping down to avoid further division in the church. He explains it on his blog…. www.danburrell.com.
We are in a tough spot now, because, it’s scary joining a church that has no pastor. Who knows who the pastor will be or what direction he will be taking the church in.
Overall, we liked a lot about the church and what they have to offer.

Sunday night, we visited another church in Charlotte. Grace Baptist of South Charlotte. They are the more traditional, conservative, fundamental church. This is a new church only 3 years old, but they are exploding in growth. They have 300 people I think they said… not to mention $500K in the building fund. They are currently meeting in a Daycare Center while they search for property.
I went to high school with a girl (Sandra Hoskins-Weber) who went to college with the pastor of Grace. We happened upon the pastor outside the church and when asked how we heard about the church, I mentioned knowing Sandra. He looked at me with a straight face and said that she was here today. He said it with such non-interest I didn’t think he could be serious. I asked him several times if he was kidding, and he kept saying yes, she was here visiting.
She and her family live in Tennessee and were visiting in Charlotte this weekend. It was such a nice surprise to see them there. I am thankful for that little gift from the Father. The Sunday that she was in town, He put the thought in my head to go finally try that church…. Funny how things work out sometimes. :)
We will still be looking… trying out some different churches I suppose. Any tips? All will be appreciated. ;)

Okay, now if you guys are willing to drive all the way to Northside… you’ve GOT to come give Trinity a try. I’m not really sure why the church is United Methodist… it could be called Trinity Baptist as far as I’m concerned. The congregation & our pastor as a whole have a conservative, fundamental foundation & the traditional service at 11 am makes use of traditional hymns with some southern gospel. Plus, our pastor (Rick) teaches an AWESOME Sunday School class!

More than anything, keep visiting & praying! I have no doubt that God has a place just waiting for ya’ll!

Just keep praying and visiting… it’ll come with perseverance and trust in God.
