Back to School…

HS

We enjoyed our Christmas Break, but have gotten back to work and gotten busy!

Handwriting seems to be going better {or maybe I am just chilling out about it} and we are learning more and more cursive letters.  The letter “p” was pretty difficult. So we had to show off the hard work.  :)

Doesn’t that look hard for a little 2nd grade hand to do?  And while we’re on the subject… WHO really makes their p’s like that?

{Sooo, Mom… since you’ve got a class full of 2nd graders to compare this to, I gotta ask… what grade would you give this writing paper?}

We also continued learning about Shape Poems.  I am NOT very talented when it comes to poetry.  Seriously.  Thankfully, the BJU press English is laid out pretty systematically in their Writing units which helped both of us.  They had this turtle shape for her to trace which was fun.

We also recently had our first encounter doing Subtraction with Borrowing! I told Chris I was a bit nervous about teaching it to her since it’s such a fundamental math principle, and I had never taught it to someone for the first time.  I’d hate to totally confuse her on borrowing and have no one else to blame for it, you know.

We used popsicle sticks in bundles of ten to help illustrate the concept, and she seemed to enjoy the idea of knocking on your neighbor’s {the tens’ place} door.  Since then she has done well and seemed to grasp it okay.  Maybe I didn’t mess her up!

It’s hard to believe we’re close to halfway done with this year!
