A Birthday Blast with Barbie

Are you all dying to know how the party went? I’m sure you are hanging on the edge of your seat, biting your fingernails at this very moment.
At the advice of my cake making expert, Ellen, and the encouragement of my mil, I decided to attempt the Barbie Cake pan even though it was missing the face inlay. Ellen advised me to print out a picture of Barbie and cover with packaging tape. And that is what we did.
We had to pad the icing around her a bit to not make it look like she was hovering above the cake, but I think it turned out well.

My wonderful, mil, Robin came over for this great endeavor around 9:30 in the morning Friday, and we finished up around 4 pm or so. It really isn’t that complicated of a cake so I know it’s hard to understand what could take us so long. Honestly, I have no idea where those hours went in. We did “waste” maybe about an hour waiting on the cake to cool.
Chris’s grandmother, Nanny, was an illustrious cake maker. She was simply amazing. She passed away in October of last year… Robin mentioned she was probably looking down on us laughing at our attempts.
Haylee was impressed with her Barbie cake, I think. So that’s the important thing.

I think the party itself went well too. We had 18 adults and 4 kids crammed into our tiny house. This made for a very interesting afternoon to say the least. Chris didn’t think I could squeeze 10 chairs into our living room, but I managed. :)
Chris informed me after the shin-dig that no one looked like they were wishing they could leave which means we were successful in throwing a good party, I guess…
more pics to come…

I think everyone really seemed to have a good time, so no worries. :)

I hope I can get the video to work in the editor, so you can show everyone how cute she is. :)

What a fun day! I think Haylee looks really happy, and your (sorry, “her”) cake looks really cool! My birthday cake decorations are pathetic, so I’m in awe of your skill. Great job!

Haylee does look quite pleased! :) I saw the other pics on Myspace, but didn’t get to comment yet. I am glad fun was had by all. Happy Birthday, Haylee!
