Over Halfway There… 100th Day of School!

DSC_0090 2

Even though it really seems like our year JUST STARTED, we just celebrated the big 100th Day of School last week!

I am glad to report after all my angst over what curriculum, and video vs traditional that we have been really happy with our choice of BJU Distance Learning.  A lot of our success with it is partly due to the fact that Haylee is pretty self motivated and focused and enjoys most of her subjects.

I really can’t see any of that happening with Wade.  :)

I have been hugely impressed that with very little day to day involvement from me, she is learning and doing great with all her subjects.

There ARE some things though, I haven’t been as thrilled with.

Probably the biggest issue I’ve had is the way they organize the lesson plans and how they correspond to the individual lesson numbers on the video.  I think the lesson plans say Day 1, Day 2 etc, and the videos say Lesson 1, Lesson 2.  Problem is they don’t always line up after awhile since a few of the subjects only have lessons 3-4 days a week.

So on Day 6, you might be on Lesson 4 in a subject.

This just plain GETS US BOTH CONFUSED.  There were plenty of days where Haylee realized {sometimes after watching all or most of a lesson} that she had watched the wrong one.  Ugh.  And Frustrating.  And tears on the verge.

I don’t know why they don’t make this clearer.  We finally worked out our own system.  When she throws up the question that she doesn’t know what lesson to be on, and I want to pull my hair out, I repeat, “What pages does your assignment sheet say?” and “What pages did the video say?”  Then she uses that to try to get where she’s supposed to be.

Overall though, we have been happy and can hardly believe that we’ve now passed Day 100!  Woot!

I have to say that we NEVER used to get this extra party day when we were kiddos, right?  And now it is a HUGE deal at most schools with tons of resources available at teacher stores and DIY ideas online.

I wasn’t planning a big fanfare at our little school, but Haylee loves any excuse to celebrate.  :)

After she finished up all her work, she and Wade got busy creating their very own, custom “100th Day” glasses!  I used this template from Lakeshore Learning.

These turned out the CUTEST, and they both displayed their personalities in their coloring style.  :)

Wade = wild, crazy, unpredictable       Haylee = deliberate, detailed, lots of flair

They had a little bit of fun modeling them too.  :)

I love that Davis Man had to get into the craziness with a hug for Wade.  :)

After our glasses, we released LOADS of energy doing ONE HUNDRED THINGS!  We did 10 each jumping jacks, hand shakes, high fives, ball rolls, head taps, toe touches, somersaults, times around the table, jumps on the bed, and even 10 hugs.

100 days

The hugs were Haylee’s idea.  :)

They also both colored 100th Day Signs that still adorn our fridge.  :)

It’s hard to believe our girl is over halfway through 3rd grade!

What is causing time to just fly by at warp speed?

When is your 100th day of school??  Isn’t it crazy how things change over the years?

In first grade, Haylee had to create something with 100 things and bring it to school!  She brought a flower made of 100 cheerios

Are you celebrating this momentous day? If so, what awesome things are you planning?

You're so much fun Renee! I would have never thought to celebrate. I totally earn the "no-fun Mom" award! Monday or Tuesday was day 110…seriously cannot believe it! Time is really flying. 4th grade just sounds SO big. Uggh.

Guess we're just gonna have to have a "just because" celebration now! =)

We are in our 11th year of homeschooling. I have 3 boys- 10th grade, 8th grade, and 6th grade. They still remind me each year that the hundreth day is coming. We always have homemade pizza for lunch and we make a treat for dessert- we had blondies this year. We celebrated our 100th day last week.

    Your glasses are cute!
I found you via HOH blog party.

Those glasses are so cute! My boys' 100th day was a few weeks ago. They did a ton of fun stuff at school and I made a 100 cake for my middle son's class:)
